Croton Mammy

Croton (*Codiaeum variegatum*) is a vibrant, colorful plant from the spurge family (Euphorbiaceae) that originates from Malaysia and the Pacific. It is widely cultivated, with numerous horticultural varieties available, ranging from shrubs to small trees. Crotons are popular as both outdoor potted plants and indoor houseplants.

In ideal conditions, croton trees can grow up to about 6 meters (20 feet) tall, though indoor varieties typically remain much smaller. These evergreen plants are known for their striking, glossy, leathery leaves. The leaves exhibit a dazzling array of colors due to anthocyanin, and can be found in solid or mixed shades of green, yellow, white, orange, pink, red, crimson, and purple. Leaf shapes vary by variety, ranging from linear and lance-shaped to oval and lobed, with sizes between 10–15 cm (4–6 inches).
